2025 Thredbo Junior Interclub Ski Racing RESULTS
Tuesday 8th July 2025
On Tuesday 8th July a 20 strong contingent of incredibly talented, enthusiastic and committed KAC Junior Members competed in the 2025 Thredbo Junior Interclub against 10 other clubs, in very challenging conditions. This was after also completing 2 days of race training for 4 hours each day on the Sunday and Monday beforehand. The race was held on High Noon in howling winds.
KAC finished 4th out of 11 Clubs, which is an incredible result given this was not only the first time KAC had competed in the Junior Interclub, but also because four competitors were unable to undertake their second run. One skier was taken out by an out-of-control snow boarder whilst simply heading to the chair to go back up for her second run and required immediate medical attention. The other three, who simply because they were the last to undertake their first run, were not able to get back to the chair in time before Thredbo Resort placed all the lifts on wind hold. This unfortunately meant that all four competitors had no times recorded through no fault of their own and thus were unable to contribute to KAC's overall points score. They will be back next year to right this wrong!
It is impossible to mention everyone, but there are some very noteworthy results.
Sophie Cassidy, age 9, and Kinsley Harvey, age 10, were second and third respectively in the Fastest Girl 11 and Under. Sophie Cassidy also finished as the 10th fastest female skier across all age groups, at the age of 9! Kinsley Harvey was the 14th h fastest female skier of the day.
Oliver Rees, age 9, was third fastest in the 11 and Under Boys.
This meant that KAC finished as the second fastest club in the 11 and Under from the combined team time of Sophie, Kinsley and Oliver. AND, all are young enough to race that age group next year!
A special mention in the 11 and Under Boys group is the youngest competitor in the boys, James Craven. James was awarded the "Very Fast Racer" award at the presentation ceremony. In an inspiring effort James shaved nearly 7 seconds off his first run of 41.49 seconds to complete his second run in 34.61 - and he still has 5 more years in this age category.
Max Cook finished 4th in the Boys 12 to 14 years. All who finished above him are older and Max has another two years in this age bracket. However, Max was also awarded the "Crash of the Day" trophy, and he won this hands down flying into the safety barrier at the end of his second run, bouncing up and saying "That was great!". Max also finished as the 11th fastest skier of the day across all sexes and age groups, aged 12.
Isabella Hupfau finished second in the girls 15 to 18, only 0.3 of a second behind first, and streets ahead of third place. Isabella also finished as the 7th fastest female skier of the day and 10th fastest, male and female, of the day!
Two final special mentions. Harriet Rees, known across the mountain and by all the instructors as "The Pink Flash" at age 5, was the youngest skier of the day.
A big congratulations to Isabella Pankraz. Isabella had the pressure of wearing the No.1 bib. This meant she was not just the first KAC competitor of the day, but had the added pressure of being the very first competitor of the whole event. Isabella handled it like the champion she is.
The 2025 Winners:
L to R: Max Cook, Isabella Hupfau, Sophie Cassidy, Harriet "The Pink Flash" Rees, Oliver Rees, James Craven. Absent Kinsley Harvey
