WHITES RIVER HUT

Location

The Kosciusko Alpine Club has had a long association with the hut, acquiring it to use it exclusively for skiing in winter in 1938.

Whites River Hut is out on the Main Range, nestled in the Munyang Corridor on the way to Schlink Pass from Guthega. Surrounded by Snow Gum slopes perfect for skiing.

Walking or Cycling in Summer or X-Country skiing in Winter is the only way to get to the Hut from the Munyang Powerstation carpark. If you love the Backcountry, this is a great spot to spend some time.

You cannot book any of the mountain huts, they are open to whoever comes along and you must share it with anyone else who turns up.

Lodge Facilities

Whites River Hut is managed by the NSW, NPWS, and assisted by KHA.

It was newly restored in 2011 by the KAC, Kosciusko Huts Association & NPWS staff, this hut is probably the most famous hut in Kosciuszko National Park, for XC skiers.

The walls and roof are of iron and the floor of wood. A stone fireplace with a large wood pile will keep even the longest blizzard away.

The huts are also home to native rats, which are protected in the park, who will be happy to share your food! Many people choose to use the hut for shelter and cooking but sleep in a tent outside.

Guestrooms

The hut has two well maintained rooms with wide bunks and the bathroom is just a short walk away, outside.
