JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT AND KAC TRAINING FUND
KAC provides direct support for junior skiers in three (3) forms: a limited guarantee of accommodation and subsidy of instructional costs for junior skiers wishing to improve their skiing technique which is available in the first week of the private school holidays in the June/July school holiday period; a limited guarantee of accommodation, together with a subsidy towards his or her training costs which is available during the same period; and, direct financial support for those skiers actively pursuing competitive skiing interests. Details of each of these are set out below.
1) B Squad
Aim: To encourage junior skiers to improve their skiing technique.
Applications will be considered by the Board from junior skiers between the age of 8 and 15 who are interested in furthering their involvement in competitive skiing by participation in advanced instructional work in the first week of the private school holidays in the June/July school holidays. Successful applicants should be athletic, keen skiers and should provide a brief resume of their skiing experience and their expectations for the coming season. Preference will be given to junior members but those on the KAC waiting list for membership will also be considered.
Successful applicants will be guaranteed accommodation at one of the club’s lodges in the first week of the private school holidays (i.e.. 28th June in 2008). Instructional costs to the value of $100 will be met by the Club in whichever discipline (alpine, cross country or snowboarding) may be nominated by the applicant. This is available for up to ten (10) junior members in each lodge or a total of thirty (30) junior members during the relevant period.
The only requirement for participation in the B Squad are the following:-
1.1 The skier must be a current junior member of the Club or currently on the waiting list.
1.2 The junior member must be booked into one or other of The Lodge at Charlotte Pass, Alpenhof at Perisher Valley or KAC Thredbo at Thredbo for the relevant school holiday period for a minimum period of one (1) week.
1.3 Expressions of interest must be lodged at the time of submitting applications for the School Holiday ballot.
1.4 The application must be accompanied by a statement setting out the proposed technique training the skier proposes for the upcoming season.
Applications are dealt with strictly on a “first in first served” basis with the Club office to note the actual time and date of each application being received in the office.
In the event that there are less than ten (10) applications received for any particular lodge then the Board may, at its discretion, transfer the allocation of funds from one lodge to another when there may be in excess of ten (10) applications for another lodge. All squad members must be supervised by an adult member in residence.
2) A Squad
Aim: To assist skiers who are dedicated in their racing and training.
Applications will be considered by the Board from those junior members who are training in Perisher Blue, Thredbo or Charlotte Pass racing squads (if appropriate) or are participating in a Department of Sport and Recreational Training Squad for alpine, cross country, freestyle or snowboarding disciplines.
Successful applicants will be guaranteed accommodation for the first two (2) weeks of the June/July school holidays (but this offer does not include other family members).
The only requirement for the above assistance is the following:-
1.1 The skier must be a current junior member of the Club.
1.2 The junior member must be booked into one or other of The Lodge at Charlotte Pass, Alpenhof at Perisher Valley or KAC Thredbo at Thredbo for the relevant school holiday period for a minimum period of one (1) week.
1.3 The application for accommodation guarantee must be received at the same time as the school holiday ballot is lodged, confirming their involvement in the relevant resort training squad.
1.4 The application must be accompanied by a statement setting out the proposed training and racing regime the skier proposes for the upcoming season.
All squad members must be supervised by an adult member in residence.
3) The KAC Training Fund.
AIM: To assist elite level skiers pursue their racing and training.
Having considered a number of options, the Board has decided that the most appropriate way to encourage and support our junior racers is through the establishment of a development fund (“The KAC Junior Training Fund”). This has replaced the Talented Skiers Program and will have available, at the discretion of the Board in consultation with the Club Captain and the Race Committee, $5,000 per annum to be applied as ex gratia payments to junior Club members on the following basis:
1. The total amount in any given year for the fund will be $5,000.
2. There will be no limit to the number of junior skiers who can be supported in any one season (subject, of course, to the limit on funds).
3. Applications must be received by the Club Captain through the registered office by 31 March each year setting out details of the junior skier’s achievements, planned program during the forthcoming year, accommodation requirements and details of how they intend to apply the funds they may receive.
4. The payments will be made either to the junior or as may be required to comply with Ski Australia, AOC and/or FIS requirements.
Wherever possible, successful applicants will be assured of accommodation throughout the season as their competitive and training commitments require (although this assurance will not be extended to other siblings, only the successful applicant and a supervising parent).
The only requirements for this support are the following:
1. The skier must be a current member of the Club.
2. The skier must have competed in relevant State and National Championship events, or their overseas equivalents, in the previous twelve (12) months (in their chosen discipline, such as alpine, snowboarding, cross country etc).
3. The skier must have achieved a level of proficiency and obtained results which reflect a serious commitment to competitive skiing.
4. The skier must, when school and racing program permit, compete for the Club in any interclub competition and/or the Club Championship during the year in which they receive their financial support.
The Board recognizes that most students will be unable to meet the latter requirement (other than perhaps by competing in the Thredbo Interclub in mid August), but believes that financial support from the Club should be reciprocated by representation and participation.
